Africa Marathons are pleased to announce that we have two Comrades Marathon Ambassadors, Jordan Foster and Danny O’Reilly, joining us on team Africa Marathons for 2020. They are both very experienced runners, but see the Comrades Marathon as a big challenge and their main goal for 2020. Here’s a bit more about them.
Jordan Foster is a 28-year-old runner from London in the UK, who is just working hard every day to achieve her goals.
Jordan says, “I still can’t believe how much running has changed my life. When I lined up for my first half marathon in 2014, I never imagined the places running would take me, or the things I would have achieved in the years that followed. This year has seen me leave the safety of road marathons behind and I have been incredibly lucky to take part in some amazing ultras around the UK & the world, with most recently completing my first 5-day, 250km ultra-marathon in the Wadi Rum desert with Ultra X, and even managing to finish 1st female! I am so excited to take on yet another new challenge next year with Africa Marathons and Comrades Marathon – I want that silver medal!”
Running is what motivates her every single day. It keeps her sane, it keeps her healthy & it has given her so much more than a few medals. She always mentions that she honestly could not imagine her life without it, and hopes she never has to experience a life without it.
Jordan inspires other runners by sharing her knowledge and infectious personality with other runners through her online coaching business – PMGCoaching. Catch her blog for more info.
Jordan inspires us as a running organisation, and it’s for this reason that a partnership was born. With Jordan’s help, we would like to encourage runners from across the globe to join us on the quest of running six marathons across Africa.
This trip will be Jordan’s first visit to South Africa, and as it will be her birthday soon after The Comrades Marathon, she is planning on extending her trip with a safari and some well-deserved beach time. As we are a specialist Africa travel company, we have been able to organise this for her.
Danny O’Reilly, is a 35-year-old runner from London, trying to juggle a 9-5 in marketing with achieving his running goals.
Danny says, “My running journey began when I moved to London. The daily commute on the tube was slowly wearing me down – I would arrive to work stressed out, and oftentimes late. Whether it be the sheer volume of people, the noise, the pushing or a combination of them all, I would walk into the office full of angst, hold on to it throughout the day, before it was time to do it all again on the way home. One day I decided to run commute instead.”
“At this stage of my life, five stone heavier and incredibly unfit. Those early runs were more walking than running, but it changed my life, and I haven’t used the tube since.”
Fast-forward 6 years and Danny has completed 26 marathons all over the world, with a PB of 2:47, as well as dabbling in the ultra scene.
Danny reports “Comrades Marathon has always been my bucket list race and will be my biggest challenge to date. There are so many elements that made me want to take on Comrades, the different medals, the stadium finish, the history, the tough cut-offs and the support – and I want that silver medal.”
Running is Danny’s passion, and he’s immensely grateful for how it’s changed his life, the people he’s met and the places he’s seen. “Running is the greatest gift anyone has ever shared with me, and I hope to share that gift with as many people as possible.”
Jordan and Danny will be sharing their Comrades Marathon training, race experience and their trip to South Africa on their successful social media pages and blogs, so watch this space! We are predicting some rivalry between Jordan and Danny and the big question is, who will come in first?! That aside, we wish you both the best of luck with your training, and we can’t wait to share the Comrades Marathon experience with you! Thank you for continuously inspiring out runners and being our Comrades Marathon ambassadors.
