Highly recommended!

My partner and I have just been to SA - she ran the Comrades and I was in the support crew! We then went on to stay at Rhino Ridge in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi park to relax and unwind after the big event.

The whole trip was organised by Africa Marathons and it was absolutely superb. They nailed all the logistics, created a great relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and saw all the runners complete the race. The safari exceeded all my expectations - the lodge and park were amazing.

I had a fantastic experience with Africa Marathons! I ran Comrades Marathon in 2023, and Africa Marathons did an excellent job taking care of all the logistics, including booking wonderful hotels and restaurants, so all that was left for me to do was relax and enjoy the race!

I also booked a safari after the race with Tailormade Africa in the Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park. One of the best holidays I've ever been on! This whole experience is one I'll remember forever and I can't recommend booking with these guys highly enough.

The service, planning and attention to detail were all outstanding - this makes such a big difference. You can book with these guys knowing they will sort everything for you, eliminating worry and allowing you to focus on race prep!

An amazing trip to the Comrades 2022

An amazing trip to the comrades 2022, super support and help all the way along from the team. Rob and Clyde did a fantastic job and I would recommend them 100% to travel with, best race I have ever run, hardest but most worth it.

Great event from start to finish, have waited 20 years to run this and it was all I expected. If you are looking to go this is the best team to travel with. Outstanding !!!

I would recommend going with Africa Marathons in a heart beat

The Comrades Marathon in South Africa had been on my to do list for a while and I'm so, so glad that I decided to go with the Africa Marathons group.

The complete 6 day itinerary, organization, communication and the always available support was excellent. There was nothing that Clyde, Rob and the team hadn't thought of and they exceeded all my expectations.

If someone is considering running the Comrades Marathon in 2023 I would recommend going with Africa Marathons in a heart beat.

What a brilliant trip! If you are going to do the Comrades (and you really should!!), then do it with Africa Marathons. Nothing was too much trouble and it was a great relief to leave all of the logistics in their very capable hands. All I had to do was amble round 90km and soak up the amazing atmosphere... everything else was done for me. Go on... sign up for next year with Africa Marathons!!

Amazing! I too signed up with Africa Marathons way back in the pre-Covid times to run the 2020 Comrades Marathon & have been so impressed by how well Rob and Clyde have kept us updated over the past couple of years until we could finally all meet up for the event itself. What a brilliant experience it turned out to be.

Africa Marathons took care of all the logistics meaning that all us runners had to do was focus on one thing: the race and having as much fun as possible. This is the first time I have taken part in a race as part of a big team like this but I was very very pleasantly surprised by how much more awesome it was getting to share the experience with a whole load of other like minded ultra-runners. Sterling job all round! If next year was an up run I’d be signed up again already :)

If you’re even considering doing this race then a) DO IT and b) do it with Africa Marathons. You’ll be so glad you did.

My experience with Africa Marathons and their team has been nothing short of excellent

My experience with Africa Marathons and their team has been nothing short of excellent. I first contacted them 3 years ago in 2019 and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, they consistently updated me about the race, cancellations and new race dates. Everything was effortless on my part, except the running itself.

During planning and booking, I received emails from Rob, who provided as much service as i needed and gave all information needed.

I was originally going to run this in 2020, but we all know what happened that year! The team kept us continuously updated with any information available about the race date- which was changed quite a few times due to the pandemic. The team worked very hard to keep us in the loop and interested in the run by sending snippets and updates regularly.

The entry procedures for comrades are to finish a marathon within their set time limit, there are criteria laid out that you have to pass in order to begin/ be enrolled in the race.

On the way, our flight was delayed which caused us to miss our interconnecting flight from Johannesburg to Durban. We knew we weren’t making the connection flight, quite early on, and the next plane wasn’t for another four days- after the race was finished. The Africa Marathons team talked to us all and asked for our opinions at every stage of the situation. They said that we should stay together as a group because they wouldn’t be able to get us onto another flight before the race. Within less than two hours, a coach to drive us from Johannesburg to Durban was arranged and we were on our way! This was the moment that we all knew that going with this company was the best thing we could’ve done.

Being an international runner from the UK, I’ve never done an ultra-marathon before, and during our five-day stay we were treated with so much respect and made to feel like elite athletes. The energy between the crowds, the runners and the organisers, created and nurtured over the last 95 races, is simply unexplainable.
The comrades; the training, the travelling, the meeting others, and the running itself has been one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had and probably will ever have. If you feel that you want to do it- you should.

Would love to do another Africa Marathons trip!

I joined the Africa Marathons group for my first running of the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. Everything about Africa Marathons' itinerary, organization, support, helpfulness, and communications was excellent, and Clyde & Rob went way, way beyond expectations in dealing with unforeseen problems and crises.

Would given 10 stars if I could and would love to do another Africa Marathons trip!

From start to finish Africa Marathons made the Comrades a wonderful experience for both myself as a runner and my wife and 11 year son as supporters. Rob was professional in his handling of air travel delays, completely outside of Africa Marathons control, having to change arrangements in a calm and desisive way at very short notice.

On race day itself, Clyde looked after my wife and son so they were able to support both myself and the other runners. Nic our coach offered fantastic advice ahead of Comrades to all the runners. As a group we all completed Comrades helped no doubt by Nic's guidance. Also the local team in South Africa were always available and helpful, particularly on race day.

I would highly recommend Africa Marathons for anyone's Comrades trip. From introductions to other team runners, the race itself, the fun of the post race party and trip extensions, Africa Marathons expertise shone through.

Look no further if you are considering a marathon experience in Africa.

Epic and fantastic trip thanks to the efforts of Rob and Clyde

My wife, baby son and I travelled to Durban with Africa Marathons as I was running the Comrades ultramarathon. We had an epic and fantastic trip thanks to the efforts of Rob and Clyde.

They were incredibly helpful and knowledgable in helping us to plan the trip, we were a bit apprehensive about going with a 13 month old baby but they were able to guide us as to the best options.

We had problems with British Airways getting us out to South Africa such that we missed our connecting flight from Jo'Burg to Durban. Africa Marathons were fantastic in sorting out a coach to Durban at short notice, even managing to source a baby car seat for us too! Without this on the ground, rapid help would never have made it to Durban in time for Comrades.

Throughout the trip there was always a clear and easy to access presence from the Africa Marathons team to help with anything that was needed. I felt very confident leaving my wife and son in Durban whilst I travelled up Pietermariztburg to start the race, knowing that the Africa Marathons crew were around and able to help my wife if she needed anything. On race day they helped get her and my son around the course so they could watch me run into the Moses Mabhida stadium at the end of a gruelling and emotional 10hr race!

We decided against doing a safari with a 13 month old baby and chose to stay and relax in Umhlanga after the run for a well deserved rest which we thoroughly enjoyed.

However we have already decided we will definitely be returning for a safari once our son is older and will most certainly be booking this through Africa Marathons and Tailormade Africa! I cannot speak highly enough of the service they provided. Superb from start to finish.

A friendly team who offered advice through every stage of the process

A friendly team who offered advice through every stage of the process of booking flights, what the race package entailed and how to book it, how to deal with the cancellations due to Covid. We received the latest updates on the Comrades Marathon including how to enter, date changes and any differences to typical UK/European races, so we could prepare properly. Whilst on the trip, we were given a plan of what needed to be done in terms of registration, going to the EXPO, getting the bus to Pietermaritzburg and what time the bus to Comrades was leaving. It worked perfectly. We had a coach who advised us on how to make the most of Comrades and how to prepare for the day. I was offered options of things to do after Comrades and chose to go on safari but there were plenty of other options. I had a great time. I would thoroughly recommend them.

I entered Comrades because I read some of the history behind the race and how iconic it was and I thought I'd like to experience that before I had to give up long-distance running for family reasons. It was also a good reason to go and visit South Africa, a place I have been interested in since I was at school and there were a lot of South Africans living in Wandsworth Borough, London. I thought the start was spine-tingling, everybody singing the South African national anthem, Shosholoza and dancing to Chariots of Fire made me cry. The crowd support and support I received from other runners was great, especially after I cracked badly at about 60km and that helped me to finish. I'm so glad I finished, it was a culmination of a beautiful long distance running journey. It made me emotional and I'm not really and emotional person.

A great group marathon trip arranged by Africa Marathons to run Comrades in Durban. It was well organised from booking through to the event itself. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and I had a great time.

Comrades is a tough event and it was good to have the Africa Marathons team on my side, sorting out the logistics so I could "enjoy" the challenge and the sense of achievement it gave me.

Can't find enough superlatives

I can't find enough superlatives to describe how wonderful my Comrades 2022 trip with Africa Marathons was. I initially contacted Rob unsure if I could even run that far. With the Africa Marathon Team's meticulous planning and regular email contact over the year before the trip, everything was so smooth and nothing seemed too much to ask. Race entry was made so simple - all I needed to do was run a qualifying time.

It's safe to say that delayed flights and missed connections during our outward journey threw up some challenges, but Rob and Clyde came into their own and demonstrated one of the many reasons why being with this team was the very best way to run Comrades. Without a doubt, I wouldn't have finished the race (or at least not in a good way!) without the support of Africa Marathons. We could be princesses for the duration of the trip, knowing someone was doing all the thinking for us, taking care of our transfers, and keeping us safe.

I began the trip nervous, and left feeling part of a family. With a medal too! Be warned though, I think doing one race with Africa Marathons will snowball into an annual affair!

Africa Marathons is a FABULOUS service!

Africa Marathons is a FABULOUS service! The whole experience from start to finish was wonderful. I had chosen to run Comrades Marathon for a 60th birthday present to myself and contacted the team at Africa Marathons in June of 2021 (for a 2022 run). The team was wonderfully responsive and kept me informed as the details at that time weren't yet set by the Comrades organizers.

The experience continued as Africa Marathons fostered a "team" atmosphere by connecting all the runners on a WhatsApp message group and arranged runs. Coaching was also a feature, which was an added plus for those of us who had never run an ultra before.

The real frosting on the cake, however, was the care we received on the ground in Africa. After having missed a connecting flight from Jo'burg to Durban, the Africa Marathons crew quickly stepped in to provide transport when no flights were available. They immediately de-stressed the situation (and sorted a situation which could have killed the run itself) and we made it to our destination. This sort of care continued through the run itself with the team having arranged to be on the course providing support and a tent at the finish.

In short, if you are going to run any event in Africa, your very first (and only call) should be to Africa Marathons! I will certainly be travelling with them again.

Blown away with the level of service

I recently took part in the 2022 Comrades Marathon, in South Africa, with Africa Marathons and was blown away with the level of service. From my initial enquiry in 2019 (thanks Covid) to the trip itself, I received a truly outstanding service. Any query I had was answered swiftly and comprehensively and with real warmth and a personal touch.

On the trip itself, logistics were smooth and high quality (including excellent hotels and transport) and the team were always on hand to deal with any questions or issues - notably sourcing alternative transport when BA delays meant we missed our connection. This meant that I could focus on the event itself, knowing that everything else was taken care of.

Most impressively their friendly but professional style laid the foundations for a real sense of team spirit and camaraderie. Africa Marathons really made me feel like a valued customer.

Exceptionally well run and great value

I just got back from a trip with these guys to South Africa for the Comrades Marathon 2022. Exceptionally well run and great value.

The Africa Marathons guys are all super nice and highly responsive. The Comrades is an unmissable experience for any long distance runner and going through Africa Marathons as the official race partner means they handle all the logistics, including your race entry and moving you around on the day, which can otherwise be a daunting prospect for non-locals.

Will use them again when I go back for the up run!
