The cancelling of Comrades 2021 must have left most of you with questions about Comrades Marathon 2022 and the Virtual Race in 2021? Africa Marathons remains committed to all Comrades Marathon events and you the runners who have remianed so extremely patient through all the up’s and down’s. Below is the latest information released by the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) earlier this week.
Hot on the heels of this year’s Centenary Comrades Marathon cancellation, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has confirmed that next year’s race will be a Down Run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. The 2022 Comrades Marathon will be the 95th running of the world-famous ultramarathon.
CMA Race Director, Rowyn James has confirmed that this will be the 47th Down Run in Comrades history, starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and finishing some 90km later at Durban’s acclaimed Moses Mabhida Stadium.
James says, “This will be only the second time that the Comrades Marathon will finish at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, after the soccer arena served as the official Comrades Finish Venue for the 2018 Down Run.”
James has also advised that those novice runners who had participated in and completed the 2019 Up Run will be eligible for their Comrades Back2Back Medal on completion of the 2022 race.
The CMA will be hosting Comrades Centenary Celebrations and the 2nd Comrades Virtual Event in the coming months and we look forward to keeping Team Africa Marathons informed of these future Comrades races in order for you to prepare accordingly. We will issue more details in this regard closer to the time and look forward to you joining us for the traditional Comrades Marathon next year.
