Can I Guarantee My Comrades Marathon 2020 Registration?

Comrades Marathon 2020 registration opens on 28^th October 2019, so there is not long to go. In view of this, we have put together an article on the Comrades Marathon registration and how we at Africa Marathons can help you with the entry process.

Comrades Marathon Entry Statistics

The Comrades Marathon is one of the most popular ultra marathons in the world, so it’s no surprise that securing a place can be competitive. Entries sold out within four days in 2019, so if you are hoping to run the Comrades Marathon in 2020, you’ll need to act quickly!

Comrades Marathon 2020 has an entry cap of 27 500, and there will be no extensions to this. International entries are also capped and have a limit of just 2500. So if you are an international runner, you will also need to be quick with your entry. Comrades Marathon entries officially close on 30^th November 2019, but it is highly likely that the cap for both South African and international athletes will be reached before this date.

How do I guarantee my Comrades Marathon 2020 registration?

With a limited number of international entries that sell out very quickly, many athletes wonder how they can guarantee a place for the Comrades Marathon. This is where Africa Marathons can help you.

Africa Marathons are an Official Comrades Tour Operator, which means we have guaranteed international places and will, therefore, make your ability to obtain an entry much easier.

Comrades Marathon with Africa Marathons

If you chose to run with us, Africa Marathons will book your race entry and entire trip. We have a five-night package available from 11^th June- 16^th June 2020. This package includes international flights, local travel, accommodation, activities and of course entry to The Comrades Marathon 2020.

The accommodation will be in Umhlanga, Durban for four of the nights and the night before the race, it will be near the start in Pietermaritzburg to make it easier for you. Local travel between the hotels and the race start will also be included. The night after the race we’ll be hosting a celebratory dinner for runners and partners who have booked with Africa Marathons, which we’re sure will be a lot of fun.

If you wish to extend your stay after the five nights, there are a number of other wonderful places to visit nearby, including Safari and beach lodges that we can also book for you.

How to qualify for the Comrades Marathon

Once you have secured your entry, you will need to qualify for Comrades. You will be required to run a Marathon, or longer if you wish, and it will need to be an official race. You have from 24^th August 2019 to 2^nd May 2020 to do this.

If you plan to qualify with a Marathon, it will need to be completed in under 4 hours, 49 minutes, 59 seconds. Times faster than this will determine your seeding and which batch you will start in. For example, if you run a Marathon between 03:39:59 and 03:59:59, you will begin in Batch D.

Once you have achieved your qualifying time, you will need to submit this to the Comrades Marathon team via email or online on their website. If during the qualifying period your time improves, you can upgrade your seeding by entering your race name and qualifying time on your race profile on the Comrades website.
