Welcome to Sierra Leone
The small, West African country of Sierra Leone is a largely undiscovered tropical paradise. Renewed efforts to develop eco-tourism and make travellers aware of the country’s many assets is under way. At Africa Marathons we believe strongly that these efforts deserve the unreserved support of the worldwide running community.
The Sierra Leone Marathon - described as ‘the world’s most worthwhile marathon’ - is the only high profile running event in the country. The run is based around the city of Makeni on both urban and rural roads. The majority of these are hard-packed mud roads, but there is also some tarmac. It takes in some of the most beautiful scenery of northern Sierra Leone. The Sierra Leone Marathon was founded in 2012 and is organised by Africa Marathons' charity partner, Street Child. Africa Marathons will donate a portion of the proceeds from each booking made through this site to the charity. Pre-marathon, runners have the chance to witness first-hand the amazing work the charity undertakes.
You can find out much more about the Sierra Leone Marathon by following the link below. But before you do, we want you to consider making the most of your visit to Sierra Leone and enjoy the many other attractions we can make available to you through our parent company Tailormade Africa.
