Comrades Ultra Marathon 2022 Here We Come!

We can’t wait for the Comrades Ultra Marathon 2022!

With just under 3 months to go, we shared some exciting news at the end of May about Team Africa Marathons at the Comrades Ultra Marathon 2022.

In case you missed it, we are extremely excited to announce that we have none other than Nick Bester joining us as the official Africa Marathons Team Coach for Comrades 2022!

For those of you who don’t know, Nick Bester is our Africa Marathons Coach. He is a South African runner living in London where he’s been based for the last four years and is now a full-time coach.

What does this mean for our team?

Our team will have Nick as their Comrades Marathon 2022 coach from now until the race. This means that all our runners will have access to his wealth of knowledge and years of experience.

Nick will be travelling with the team from London and will be on hand in Durban to lend advice, help prepare our athletes, and of course, support the team on race day! 

Why does Coach Nick know Comrades best?

Comrades is in his blood. Nick has run Comrades three times with a personal best of 6hrs 28mins.

Nick initially got into running by committing to do the Comrades Marathon in 2014. After finishing in a time of 7h 14min and managing to get a silver medal in his first Comrades (down run), he wanted to train a little harder and have one more year’s experience to tackle the Comrades Marathon (up run).

He took this challenge on and completed his second Comrades (up run) in a time of 6h 58min. The challenge wasn’t over, and he knew he could go faster so he was back the following year (down run) and finished in a time of 6h 28min, finishing 73rd overall.

It is a fantastic advantage for our runners to have him on the team!

What our Comrades Team can expect in the months leading to the race

Our team is officially full, and training is going smoothly.

For our athletes based in the UK, we will be hosting a meet and greet for the team as well as many training days together.

This gives our runners a chance to feel a part of Team Africa Marathons, and hopefully make some life-long running buddies. Let’s go Comrades Ultra Marathon 2022!
