With only 100 days left to the running of the 2018 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, there is something new to look forward to in South Africa. Lace up and move.
South Africa is often referred to as a world in one country and it certainly deserves such a title. There are few, if any, places on earth which offer such a diversity of landscapes, cultures, wildlife and activities.
There are several marathons and other running events held in South Africa, each of which is pretty extraordinary in its own right. Of those, Africa Marathons have chosen 2 of the biggest and best events on the calendar for you to enjoy.
First, the legendary Comrades Ultra-Marathon , the world’s oldest and largest ultra-marathon, with some 20000 runners tackling approximately 90kms in some of South Africa’s most breathtaking scenery. It’s run in KwaZulu-Natal, known as the ‘garden province’, on a route between Durban and Pietermaritzburg in June.
And second, the Cape Town Marathon in September. There are few, if any, better settings for running than Cape Town, truly one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in the world.
You can find out much more about them by clicking below. But before you do, we want you to consider making the most of your visit by examining the many other attractions this wonderful country has to offer.
Pre- or post-marathon, the options are almost endless. And through our parent company Tailormade Africa, we can offer you exceptional, individually designed itineraries. Here are just a few examples.
In Cape Town, you could spend a few more days exploring the city’s main attractions including Table Mountain, Robben Island or the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony; simply wander around the vibrant Waterfront, dine out at the many top restaurants or relax on the beaches of Camps Bay. Wine and food lovers will relish visits to the towns and vineyards of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl, just an hour away from Cape Town. Slightly further on down the coast lies the town of Hermanus, which also deserves a mention for its whale watching between June – November.
Pre or post the Comrades, you could just relax in beautiful Durban or, if you have the time, head out to explore the fantastic region of KwaZulu-Natal, experience a safari in the many private game reserves, explore the Anglo-Zulu & Anglo-Boer battlefields, hike in the Drakensburg mountains or relax on the many long and beautiful beaches of the region.
There is so much to experience in South Africa, so do speak to us about adding on time in this special country. It’s up to you.
