Welcome to the Kilimanjaro Marathon

SUNDAY 4th March 2018

Taking place under the watchful eye the highest mountain in Africa and highest free standing mountain in the world The Kilimanjaro Marathon (42.2km), Half Marathon (21.1km) and Fun Run (5km).

The Kilimanjaro Marathon is an accredited IAAF race, has official time-keeping, marshalling and refreshment points at regular intervals. It also can be used as a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon in South Africa, another of our list of must do Africa running events.

The race has a quite manageable altitude with the entire race being completed between 830m and 1150m above sea-level on good tarred roads. The route passes through many villages, farms, banana and coffee plantations, patches of forest and sections of Moshi town, all surrounded by a great atmosphere provided by the excitement of residents who give ample vocal support throughout! Towards the finishing line the atmosphere in the stadium is electric with local bands playing, entertainment and big crowds, along with plenty of food and drink – including the famous Kilimanjaro beer of course!

The Kilimanjaro Marathon provides the unique opportunity to not only take part in a top running event, but potentially combine this with climbing the highest free standing mountain in the world! At 5,895m in height Kilimanjaro is a tough, but attainable goal for those who are determined and fit enough. Climbs pre or post marathon can be organised by us and normally last between 6 and 8 days.

Of course if this is all too strenuous then nearby are the world famous National Parks of Northern Tanzania, including Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, all home to a wealth of fantastic wildlife and breathtaking scenery. Safaris pre or post climb can be organised for you ranging from just a couple of days to a week or more.

For those who just need to rest then a short flight away is the beautiful idyllic islands of Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia. We can organise for you to spend several days or longer relaxing on the pristine palm tree fringed white beaches, swimming, snorkeling, diving or exploring the history of Zanzibar's capital, Stone Town.
